Historical and Geographical Background Formation of Traditional Music Culture of the Hanjiang River Basin
Abstract: The Hanjiang River basin located in China’s North-South natural geographical boundary — south the line of Qinling Mountains and Huaihe River, across Hubei, Shaanxi and Henan provinces area. The traditional music of this geographical area has distinctive features and characteristics of both the north and south transition style, but there are some regional differences existed in the internal landscape of music culture. The formation of this traditional music and cultural geography of the Hanjiang River basin are result of joint actions: the different landforms located in the upper, middle and lower reaches, geographic distribution pattern of regional dialects, setting of county administrative region in Ming and Qing Dynasties, the traffic location extend in all directions, as well as the Jingchu migratory movements in the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties.
