Tong Zhongliang Chronicle
Abstract: Tong Zhongliang was born in Honghu, Hubei Province in 1935. Tong studied at Art School of Zhongyuan College, Art College in Central-South China, and Music Academy in Central-South China during 1950-1955. Tong studied abroad in the German Democratic Republic, and graduated from the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig during 1955-1961. From 1982 to 1996, he had been a professor and the President of Hubei Art Institute, and the President of Wuhan Conservatory of Music. He was former chairman of the Hubei Musicians Association, a member of a council of Chinese Musicians Association, and a member of the Discipline Appraisal Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Tong went to the Conservatory of the University of Vienna for a two-year collaborative research in 1991. He published The Function-net in Modern Harmony,“DuichengYueXueLunJi”(Collected Works of Symmetrical Music Study) and other more than 20 volumes of monographs and co-author, wrote dozens of papers. He worked as professor at Department of Ethnomusicology in Taiwan Nanhua University from 2001 to 2005. Tong Zhongliang died on July 3, 2007.
